4 Star Site with Activities and Culture at it's doorstep
This family run campsite is a pleasure to stay on, every one was so welcoming. The site has been designed very tastefully, and is beautiful - the owners obviously take pride in their site! And although it has 120 pitches, it feels a lot more intimate due to the layout.
Each pitch is separated by mature plants and dividing bushes. And the pitches are a great size too.
While all pitches have electric hook up, you can opt for water and drainage on your pitch too. Pitches 1 - 23 all have individual taps to connect to a hose pipe, and waste water can go straight down the drain. You just need your usual water set up - we used an extra length of waste water pipe, and a fresh water hose attached to a cistern in the aquaroll.
Forget the long treks to the shower blocks, this site has 6 of them, all dotted around the campsite, including 2 which are heated in the colder months. There is even a carpet washing area, and a dog shower. Sorry Lox it's time for a bath!
We visited when France was coming out of lockdown in stages. Bars, restaurants, swimming pools and sports grounds were not allowed to open. Which is a shame as Montplaisir has all of them! I could have imagined myself sat on one of the sun loungers with a cocktail, or in the onsite restaurant trying the pizza. I couldn't imagine myself playing football though so no loss there! I might be tempted to hire one of their bikes though, as there were loads of pretty villages to discover in the area.
The advantage of this site is it's proximity to a charming little town. The first 200m or so you are on the side of a road with no pedestrian path, but after this short stretch, it is all pavement. Also, in 200m is a very large supermarket, as well as a pharmacy.
Continue going, and in around 5 - 10 minutes you are in the old town of St Rémy.
We loved this town! So apologies for our holiday snaps but we really wanted to show you how pretty it is. A wide variety of shops, restaurants and a lovely atmosphere. It feels well kept and authentic. A great place to visit but not too touristy.
Made famous by Van Gogh's residency in it's psychiatric hospital, you can follow a self-guided tour and see the real life vistas that inspired some of his most famous works.
But that isn't the only famous former resident, Nostradamus was born here and you can visit his former home.
If you prefer to get out of the town, then you are on the doorstep of the Alpilles, a gorgeous regional park containing mountains and lakes. The campsite can provide you with maps of circular walks. The paths are well worn as you will pass through a Roman settlement, and many Roman relics dating back to 900AD.
And did we mention there is a local caravan storage company, who will tow your caravan to your pitch?
